I’m making this post as my first announcement, that as of this week Gods & Spirits will be changing its format to shorter posts, and that most if not all of such posts will now expect to use the Gods & Spirits Facebook page as its primary platform.
Sadly, trying to publish long posts on this Blogspot blog is inefficient, and very frustrating in the amount of time that it consumes. Google Blogger, for all of its benefits - including a benefit that I’m sure many bloggers enjoy, of making posts more attractive to search engines through the use of Labels - is also still an interface that’s difficult to work with on a tablet. Every time that my posts go past the limit of the first “A4 size page” of the WYSIWYG used by Blogger as i’m writing them, I struggle to then scroll between different parts of the post as I’m editing. This is made only more frustrating by images - uploading and placing them is easy. But it could be a lot easier! Whole traits of working this interface could be a lot easier than they are. And it really puts me off of continuing to work on the blog, in the manner that I’ve desired.
I had already decided, at the end of the first month of doing this blog, that I would make fundamental changes. So from here, I will publish just one more post to Blogspot, which will only serve the purpose of listing links to my individual posts to the Facebook page. It will effectively act as an index of my posts on the Facebook page. I will add a link to each post from the Facebook page, as I update it. And I am quite content with it being this way, for the foreseeable future.
In order to use the Facebook page more efficiently as my primary platform, posts will be shorter, and normally continuing from one to another. This of course means that I can’t use links between posts any longer either. But it has the upside of retaining a continued interest from readers, who only need to like the page on their Facebook account in order to keep seeing new posts.
This is very much a fall-back option that I’m taking. It isn’t what I had in mind, when I started the Gods & Spirits blog. I believed that keeping a primary platform on the main web, instead of only social media, would attract a broader audience, and keep what i’m doing free from the prejudices of algorithms. But I also need the freedom to be able to make new posts in a snap, instead of feeling each new one will be another big hill for me to climb up.
I regret that I can’t continue to use Blogspot and Google Blogger effectively. But Gods & Spirits was always something I had intended to start for social purposes. I don’t mind if it goes somewhere beyond that. But as long as it is something only social, I really don’t see anything wrong with using social media as its primary platform. And I hope that this will still make the social connections I had hoped to gain, from when I first planned this blog.
In other news, since it seemed important to me that I should draw a clear line under the issue of running a blog that promotes enjoyment of alcohol, I’ve recorded in a very informal, improvised live video on the Facebook page; an address talking about alcohol misuse, Alcohol Use Disorder and the need to provide support to people living with it. There is also a clarification on the reasons why I’ve decided to have a monthly item for “Tee Total Tuesdays”, so that Gods & Spirits can hopefully be a blog that’s inclusive of people who avoid alcohol - for whatever reasons :

One thing I forgot to give full mention in this video, is that I have noticed non-alcoholic spirits - mainly gin substitutes - have become quite popular in supermarkets; both newer, and more established chains are selling third-party brands of non-alcoholic spirit drinks. And i’m not merely jumping on a bandwagon by having an item which intends to review such drinks. Although it helps that I can ride a surge of new popularity that they are experiencing, I will be putting such reviews on Gods & Spirits, for the time being, with a wish to be inclusive, in my vision of what this blog will be.
